A voter may write-in the name of a candidate on the ballot in Rhode Island.
Voters must write in the name and register the vote by making a mark in the ballot in the appropriate space selecting the write-in option. Otherwise, the vote may not be counted.
In RI, both "Bernie Sanders" and "Bernard Sanders" are acceptable and will be cumulatively totaled so please follow write-in directions above. The VP selection is not necessary in RI, but if you wish to write in a VP, we suggest “BernieSanders, President /Tulsi Gabbard, Vice President,” which follows the same format as the printed RI ballot choices.
The Board of Elections adopted new rules in time for November’s election that allow for selfie-taking inside polling places. The updated regulations allow voters to take photos as long as they don’t show another person’s ballot.
